Drink What You Want: The Podcast, Explained

 Hello!

Thanks so much for agreeing to be on an upcoming episode of Drink What You Want: The Podcast. This entire operation is just me so I will be your main point of contact as well as your interviewer, producer, publicist, etc.

You should have received a calendar appointment for our interview. I set the timing for 50 minutes to account for setup, troubleshooting, and questions but I am trying to keep the interviews to around 45 minutes.

You should have a Riverside.fm link in your calendar appointment and that’s your one stop shop for the recording process. It will handle all recording and uploading. All you need to do is make sure you have a good setup, which you can read all about HERE. Please make sure you’re using headphones to avoid any echo on the final recording.

Annoyingly, Riverside only works on the Google Chrome browser but you can also use their mobile app—more info HERE.  (And just in case, the link to record is HERE.)

Ideally I’d like to be able to use the video recording to make clips to more easily promote the episode on socials, but if you’d rather it be audio-only, I am happy to only use the audio recordings. Regardless, I would like to use the video functionality of the recording platform since it’s generally better for rapport/vibe.

The purpose of this podcast is to document the individuals who make up the beverage industry. The thesis echoes the central argument of my cocktail book, Drink What You Want—that there are subjective and objective factors that define success for a cocktail. This relates to the beverage industry as a whole because it is made up of unique subjective individuals who have a point of view and specific desires and preferences, but we all must adhere to objective standards to a certain degree in order to operate in a commercial industry where the ultimate goal is to get people to buy things.

 Some general questions to consider:

 -      How did you get to where you are now? What was the moment where everything clicked and you were like, “Ok, this is my life now”?

 -      How would you describe your point of view as someone who educates the public about drinks? How do you define success for yourself or for an individual project/drink? In what way and to what extent do you edit yourself in order to accommodate what other people want from you?

-      What’s something about the broader drinks/restaurant/hospitality industry that you’d like to change? What, if anything, are you doing to enact that change?

 -      What’s something about your work that you wish that more “normal” people knew?

-      What are some of your favorite drinks right now?

Of course there will be follow-up questions and tangents but this hopefully gives you a sense of the overarching conversation. There won’t be any gotcha questions and please let me know if there are any topics you would like to not talk about. I’m also a fairly handy audio editor so if at any point in the recording you want to re-take something, please feel free to stop talking for a few seconds and then start over. That said, I am trying to keep the show on a “clean” rating.

Once the episode goes live, I will share the link with you as well as post on my personal Instagram with a link to the show in my stories and would love for you to promote as you’re comfortable.

Thanks!
